I think the super eagles were harshly criticised for losing to Argentina hence knocked out of World Cup at the group stage.
Looking at the things it seems like most of the critics are social media attention seekers and surprisingly, quite a number of Nigerian women. One still wonder when a vast majority of our women suddenly became football enthusiasts.
Going back to match against Argentina last night it won’t take much to understand clearly, that, odds were heavily against Nigeria winning that match. Ie if you can ignore the pig that is supposed to be swimming swaps and the cat that should be chasing mice.
Messi & Maradona factor.
The above two players were among the world’s finest players in their time.
Maradona – led Argentina to final in Italy 90 but lost to Germany by just 1 – 0.
Messi – led Argentina to final in 2014 but lost at the final to same Germany with the same scoreline.
Messi is like a modern version of Maradona. There’s nothing that Maradona did which Messi cannot do so I wonder how our people are blaming a team that faced one of the greatest players ever. Even a much better Super Eagles of 1994 lost to Argentina or even a lower quality.
The referee was not entirely at wrong.
The two fouls could’ve resulted to a penalty but then again, they could have easily been waved. Awarding one leaving the other seems quite fair IMO.
The same referee could have red carded Balogun for his foul on Di Maria who seems to have beaten him with pace and was clear on goal.
If I’m even to say without sentiment I will point to the fact that Mascharano’s yellow card and even the penalty was a bit harsh. Many Nigerians could have complained bitterly if it was Super Eagles that was on the receiving end.
Very terrible! Reminds me of how much we missed his tribesman, Aghahowa. Julius Aghahowa could have taken away that goal with even his both eyes closed. Ighalo’s miss was terrible but that’s football for you.
Omerue’s role in Messi’s first goal.
He could have done a bit better to stopping Messi but let’s take nothing away from Messi’s goal. It was a touch of class finished in style! Free Omerue abeg, we are talking of Messi that made almost all big defenders on earth look cheap. He even made Ferdinand and Vidic look like overgrown local idiots.
The present Super Eagles squad is just a group of young enthusiastic players, don’t even think any player among them have the quality to making 1994 bench. Etebo, Mikel, and Moses, maybe.
Joke apart, I never see them going beyond this stage in this tournament hence wasn’t surprised they were knocked out in the group stage.
