To all women all over the world especially fellow Anglican faithfuls, Happy Mothering Sunday!
I will like to make this update as short as possible without lacking the insight of my perception and observation on the status and role of African women in the Society.
One of the greatest problems of a typical African society is the strange regards to women and rather annoying enthronement of men as the “owners of this earth” while women are to serve to their pleasure. The brusque remarks can easily be summed to – men are first class while women are the assistants, servants and the subordinates to the Rex. The reason for the above rationality which to me is rather asinine conclusion is how the culture, traditions and to an extent foreign religions have been misquoted, misrepresented and misunderstood.
Take for instance – “the woman is made from a single rib of a man hence they must submit and subject themselves to men”.
Let me not drag this to another uninspiring religious fanatical debate and state clearly, my own understanding, regards and concept of womanhood and why they must be given their suitable place in the Society.
Women are not meant to serve man, they are meant to perfect humanity which God saw clearly after the creation, that male alone is an incomplete being. What I mean in the sense is that our society, humanity will totally crash to shreds if women are taken away. Mankind can neither work with men alone or women alone.
Men + women = perfection of humanity. None is more important than the other and both cannot stand on their own. They are like two halves of a whole being, two different charges of electrical current which cannot work on their own (negative current needs positive to work, vise versa ).
In conclusion, we must endeavor to give our women their rightful place in society. Gender in equality is an enemy of any progressive society that must be treated as one. Our families cannot work without women as mothers, our society will collapse if women are taken away. All churches will close down without women in them. Economy will surely implode without women.
One of the reasons why Africa is not progressive is the mentality and crass negative regards to our women.
